Root + Dye
Natural dyes produce an extraordinary diversity of rich and complex colours. They don’t use toxic or polluting chemicals nor are there environmental consequences of industrialized resource extraction. They’re ethical and sustainable, and anything left over can be composted.
The Alchemy of Natural Dyes & Root
The cellulosic fibres of the root soak up natural dyes to create a spectrum of colours.
Reds and oranges can be created using dyes made from madder, cochineal, lac or logwood. Meanwhile, purples and blacks can be achieved by using logwood or gallnut. For greens, chlorophyllin is the key ingredient, while blues are produced from woad.
